PLATO'S COLLECTION

PLATO'S COLLECTION

Plato's Collection consists of five handmade garments constructed from recycled paper and fabric. One of the dresses made it to the iconic exhibition “Little Black Dress” in England along with Vivienne Westwood, Saint Laurent and Issey Miyake. That was pretty cool.

The project draws inspiration from Plato's five Platonic solids, which he believed were the fundamental elements of the universe. It explores the relationship between geometry, human body and its environment.

“Amila, I just saw your work on a book cover in a bookstore in New York!!!”

— Naida Celik (I really didn't write this quote myself)

It was featured in various books and publications about fashion, paper craft, arts & design.

The coolest thing — students worldwide created academic theses and projects inspired by this work.

From gallery to gallery, from museum to museum, from country to country...the collection has lived an eventful life. Now, it’s at my dad’s house, peacefully resting in pieces.
